Family Search
This site is provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Registeration is "Free" and so is the use of the site. It provides very good information along with great insight to the process of genealogy research. It will lead you into "fee" siates but you have the option to join or not.
Find a Grave
Great site that is based on contributions of individual that visit cemeterys and collect and publish informatin and pictures. "Free" registration and use. Easy to use and allows contact with contributors so that you can provide corrections and additional information or even become a contributor.
Texas State Library
This site provide a variety of information related to individual that lived in Texas. Registration is not required and access if "Free".
Civil War Site
The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System website is "Free". A database containing information about the men who served in the Union and Confederate armies during the Civil War. Other information on the site includes histories of Union and Confederate regiments, links to descriptions of significant battles, and selected lists of prisoner-of-war records and cemetery records, which will be amended over time. The CWSS is a cooperative effort between the National Park Service and several public and private partners whose goal is to increase Americans' understanding of this decisive era in American history by making information about it widely accessible.
National Archives
This sites provide access to actual government records. You can request full military records for individuals from World War I and World War II. There will be minor a charge for copying and sending this information.
